SVM - Associate/Full Professor, Internal Medicine, Infectious/Immune mediated Diseases and Oncology

St. George’s University invites applicants for a full-time Associate/Full Professor role, in the Small Animal Medicine and Surgery department in the School of Veterinary Medicine, beginning 9/30/2025.

Job Description

Objective

The faculty of St George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine are dedicated to upholding the mission of providing an international, culturally diverse environment in which students learn the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for postgraduate training in the Veterinary profession while being inspired to develop compassion, curiosity, tolerance and a commitment to animals and society, a dedication to life-long learning and an understanding of the vital role of research in Veterinary Medicine.

Essential Functions

Enhance the knowledge, growth, and overall development of the veterinary students through contribution to courses administered by the Department through the delivery of assigned lectures, running small groups, reviewing, and contributing to course material, developing, and reviewing exam questions.

Contribution to research is also required.

Roles and Responsibilities


Instructional Activities

+ This position will include participation in different clinical skills courses across the curriculum.

Instruction, scholarship, and clinical service are expected.

+ Develop and deliver selected lectures/lessons on physiological basis of disease, internal medicine, infectious and immune mediated diseases, and oncology

+ Collaborate with an interdisciplinary faculty teams to develop and deliver new integrated systems-based lessons and case-based learning activities

+ Participate in developing the syllabus outline by providing objectives and examination questions for each assigned lecture.

+ Assist in conducting and grading of examinations in compliance with the SVM Examination Policy.

+ Participate in the professional and clinical skills curriculum, OSCEs, and development of the new curriculum.

Clinical rotations

+ Instruct 5th and 6th term students in a clinical setting by actively participating of the Small Animal Clinic (SAC) rotations and daily rounds.

+ Provide clinical service in the Small Animal Clinic (SAC) including advice in emergency situations.

+ Assist in technician education/training.

+ Contribute to other SAC activities (i.e. M&M rounds, case presentations).

Research and Scholarly Activities:

+ Active engagement in a research program in the area of expertise which will also provide student research opportunities.

+ Develop and contribute to extension and continuing education programs, in collaboration with other departments and/or other schools.



+ Support student research and learning through supervision and mentoring of selected students.

+ Contribute to curriculum review and innovation.

+ Practice continuous quality improvement of the courses and content delivered by the department.

+ Active participation in scientific/educational conferences and Continued Education.

Service

Participate in the following University activities:

+ Departmental Meetings (when required)

+ Consultations with clinicians

+ Departmental Faculty evaluations (when required)

+ SVM Faculty meetings (when required)

+ Special Committee Assignments (as assigned by the Dean)

+ Outreach efforts in the local community (i.e. One Health One Medicine program, Carib Vet)

+ Contribute to the academic advisory system for all students enrolled on the DVM program.


Qualifications

+ DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree, MSc or Phd preferable.

+ Board certification is highly desirable.

Candidates who are Board-eligible will be considered based on successful completion of a Residency training program by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM).



+ Other recognized Board certifications and experience in a clinical teaching facility will be considered as well.

Desirable Qualities

+ Experience teaching Small Animal Medicine in a Veterinary Medicine curriculum

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills

+ A commitment to the education of DVM professionals

+ Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a positive attitude toward student enrichment in all areas of academic and practical preparatory coursework.

+ A desire for contribution to scientific literature.

+ This is a full time position in the Caribbean island of Grenada.
